Position Overview
Edmonton Meals on Wheels invites seasoned leaders to the pivotal role of People & Culture Manager, a strategic leadership position under the Executive Director’s guidance. This role is central to shaping the human experience within our organization, focusing on staff and volunteers. The incumbent will drive HR strategies, including recruitment, onboarding, and comprehensive training programs, while ensuring compliance with legislation and agency policies. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on our community, fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and volunteerism. As a key leader, you will inspire a positive work environment, demonstrating superior interpersonal skills and a commitment to our mission’s strategic direction.


Responsibilities
• Strategic HR Leadership: Collaborate with senior management to craft HR strategies that align with our mission. Lead initiatives in staff and volunteer engagement, retention, and development.
• Recruitment and Onboarding: Implement innovative recruitment strategies to attract diverse talent. Oversee a welcoming onboarding process that integrates new members into our culture seamlessly.
• Training and Development: Develop and administer comprehensive training programs. Ensure that staff and volunteers have the skills and knowledge to excel in their roles and contribute to our mission.
• Culture and Engagement: Champion a positive organizational culture that encourages teamwork, recognition, and personal growth. Drive efforts to maintain high levels of staff and volunteer satisfaction.
• Performance Management: Lead the performance review process, providing clear expectations, feedback, and support for professional development.
• Policy Development and Compliance: Ensure HR policies are up-to-date, compliant with legislation, and reflective of our values.
• Advisory Role: Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and management team on all human resources matters.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a non-profit or community service organization. Equivalencies may be considered.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with a passion for developing and nurturing talent.
• Comprehensive understanding of HR best practices and current regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation/requirements.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with an empathetic approach to problem-solving.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with HRIS systems.

Salary/Hours
• $62,000 – $75,000 per year.
• This role is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

Position Overview
An exciting, blended opportunity exists for a Delivery and Order Fulfillment Support team member at our central Edmonton facility. You will be working alongside a fast-paced team of staff and volunteers, playing a pivotal role in ensuring efficient delivery operations and seamless order fulfillment processes. This position involves a combination of delivery driving, frozen meal order picking, and administrative support tasks. The applicant must be flexible and responsive to manage changes to route scheduling, order updates, and inventory management. This position is temporary until December 27, 2024.

Responsibilities

Delivery Driving

  • Ensures timely delivery of meals to individuals/facilities throughout Edmonton using a Meals on Wheels delivery van
  • Supports the Volunteer Coordinator answering calls and troubleshooting volunteer concerns
  • Maintains the cleanliness of delivery vehicles and related items. Facilitates vehicle maintenance as required.
  • Ensures all vehicles are accounted for, and parking lots are tidy
  • Ensures safe food handling practices, dress code, health and safety protocols, and personal hygiene are upheld
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills

 

Order Picking

  • Works alongside a full-time order picker to accurately and efficiently pick and organize client frozen meal orders
  • Closely collaborates with the client services team to ensure systematic order picking and consistent communication
  • Assists in preparation, packaging and labelling of meals
  • Rotates and organizes inventory as requested. Regularly monitors inventory levels of frozen meals
  • Maintains a knowledgeable understanding of the safe and efficient operations of the kitchen and agency as a whole
  • Responds to telephone and in-person inquiries as required
  • Assists with cleaning and ware washing as required

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Clear criminal record check including vulnerable sector search
  • Clean driving record and be approved as a driver by Edmonton Meals on Wheels (EMOW) insurance company
  • Valid class five driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Able and willing to drive a company vehicle in all weather conditions throughout greater Edmonton
  • Minimum 25+ years of age
  • Willing/able to use your own smart phone for texts, phone calls and mapping capabilities
  • Positive, reliable and professional team player who is a self-starter
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • 1-year related experience. Experience in high volume kitchens is preferred
  • Food Safe Certification preferred
  • Able to tolerate cold temperatures while organizing frozen meal orders
  • Ability to bend, crouch, lift up to 50 pounds
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Organized and able to handle multiple projects under tight timelines
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Positive, flexible, and outgoing team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Willing to complete other duties as required

Compensation

  • $17 – $18 per hour
  • Monday to Friday, approximately 20 to 25 hours per week, starting at approximately 9am daily

An exciting opportunity exists for a summer position in our Client Services Department. This role is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week until August 31, 2024. The successful incumbent is a self-directed, motivated, team player who is compassionate, patient, organized and committed to our focus of serving individuals with barriers to prepare nutritious food. Customer service experience working with vulnerable people or seniors is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Client Services Team with a variety of tasks
  • Enrolls new clients and administers changes for our Programs.
  • Responds to telephone, online and in person to program inquiries.
  • Completes meals deliveries when required, following all traffic policies and safety rules.
  • Completes annual client and volunteer surveys
  • Has strong data entry skills
  • Understands the importance of a small team and helping wherever it is needed

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree (or current pursuit thereof) in a related field with 1 to 3 years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered
  • Customer service experience required
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working in an administrative role with excellent data entry skills.
  • Organized, excellent time management and able to handle multiple projects under tight timelines.
  • A clean vulnerable sector check

An engaging opportunity exists for a summer position providing kitchen support in our fast-paced environment working alongside staff and volunteers.   This individual will work in a team environment, assuring that our clients receive nutritious meals, desserts and snacks while filling in for staff vacancies washing dishes and receiving and storing goods.  This role is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week until August 31, 2024.  Kitchen experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Display and adhere to safe food handling practices, cleanliness and hygiene
  • Demonstrate excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Support dessert, sandwich, salad preparation, packaging and assembling
  • Delegate tasks to volunteers, with the support of the kitchen supervisors
  • Store and date food items
  • Assist with responsibilities of ware washer
  • Assist order picking, labelling and checking frozen orders
  • Related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • 1-year related experience. Experience in high volume kitchens is preferred
  • Emergency First Aid and Food safe certification is preferred
  • Security clearance for vulnerable populations mandatory
  • Organized and able to handle multiple projects under tight timelines
