The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on what you, our loyal supporters, have known all along. Meals on Wheels is an essential service for many of our city’s most vulnerable. Senior, homebound, and at-risk Edmontonians turn to us as a lifeline for food, essentials and social engagement. For 50 years we’ve been committed to providing healthy and affordable meal and grocery delivery programs. Today, even during this crisis that commitment remains stronger than ever!
We are living in a new reality that just one month ago did not exist. Each new day brings new information with new measures to be put in place as the guidelines from our Provincial and Federal health Authorities continue to evolve. We must ensure that every precaution is taken to protect our staff and volunteers who show up every day putting their well-being at risk. Our health and safety measures have evolved to include upgrades to our volunteer screening process, food preparation and delivery procedures as well as expanded our facility sanitation to provide a safe environment for our staff, volunteers and clients. We remain diligent and resilient as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to test our organization in ways we could have never predicted.
During this time of uncertainty, we find comfort in knowing that an army of community volunteers are here to support us. The kindness and generosity coming from so many is truly incredible and highlights how our community can come together in times of crisis. It is your generosity that keeps us going. Because of you, we can confidently tell our clients they never have to worry where their next meal will come from. Because of you, we can assure family members that their isolated loved ones are being checked on by a caring volunteer. Because of you, we can provide essential items to our clients who are unable to leave their homes. Because of you, Edmonton Meals on Wheels exists.
