Connecting with AdaptAbilities to Feed the Soul
At Edmonton Meals on Wheels, we believe that proper health is more than just tending to one’s physical needs. Our health is dependent on several factors, including emotional and spiritual well-being.
With our Feeding the Soul program, we aim to uplift our clients by incorporating an extra bit of positivity and thoughtfulness into their meal bags. We’re fortunate to have several of our community partners participate in this program, including AdaptAbilities. The organization’s participants consistently volunteer with us by decorating and personalizing the meal bags, envelopes, and cards for clients.
From compassionate messaging to brightly coloured illustrations, their contributions help us elevate our clients’ experience by brightening their day and reminding them that they are cared for.
AdaptAbilities is an organization that empowers individuals with diverse abilities by giving them the opportunity to learn and grow. The volunteer groups that come in are part of AdaptAbilities’s Community Connect program which supports adults in developing independent living skills, self-confidence, and connecting with their community.
“People respect experience on a resume,” says Patty Woodman, an AdaptAbilities Community Support Worker. However, in addition to gaining valuable volunteering experience, participants also create meaningful connections with their community while boosting their self-confidence.
“It gives them autonomy and builds their self-esteem,” Patty says. “They’re able to see that ‘I can do these things.’” However, in addition to gaining valuable volunteering experience, participants also create meaningful connections with their community.
“It gives them autonomy and builds their self-esteem.”

The AdaptAbilities volunteer groups have contributed over 400 bags which have been delivered to clients. “That just warms my heart,” she says, “to know that 400 people received something on their bag.”
We’re incredibly grateful for our partnership with AdaptAbilities. We’re committed to supporting our community, and we’re honoured that the Feeding the Soul program allows us to bridge connections between Edmontonians, whether they be volunteers or clients.
Together, we can uplift each other by spreading warmth and compassion.
