Edmonton Meals on Wheels is committed to promoting sustainability through food rescue and by implementing eco-friendly practices like composing or using reusable packing.
Our Food Rescue program ensures fresh food reaches its full potential.. Too often, groceries find themselves unable to sell food for a variety reasons — shape, spotting, or damage. But despite imperfections, these fruits and vegetables are still rich with essential nutrients. Our current food rescue partners include Vertical Roots, Loops, and the Leftovers Foundation.
We recognize that composting as an important step in reducing food waste. Our new Compost program transforms food waste into resources. We work alongside community gardens and university programs to reuse food waste like peels and trimmings.
Our meals are packaged using recyclable containers. Our clients can easily heat and enjoy their meals before washing, recycling or re-using their containers for further use.
