Edmonton Meals on Wheels starved for volunteers

Charity launching volunteer recruitment campaign by volun-telling 2 friends

Edmonton, AB – Between January 21 and February 13, Edmonton Meals on Wheels is setting out to recruit new volunteers with its Volun-Tell 2 Friends campaign. Sign up to volunteer and bring two friends with you – doubling the fun and the EMOW ranks of volunteers. EMOW hopes to recruit 50 new volunteers by February 13th.

Edmonton Meals on Wheels is a volunteer-based organization. Around for 50 years, EMOW serves homebound, at-risk seniors, isolated, and vulnerable Edmontonians. We are ‘more than a meal’, providing healthy food to eat and support for the soul. We only have a total of 9 kitchen staff to produce 2800 to 3000 meals per week and administration staff of 8 to do everything else. We do it because we have the drive to help, but we could use some help ourselves.

We rely on the support of the community to continue to do what we do. To keep the doors open, each week we need at least 100 volunteers doing shifts in the kitchen and 125 volunteer drivers to cover all the routes. As the cost of food rises and the need for our service grows, we are striving to find new ways, resources, and partnerships to keep the wheels turning.
