On April 2, we held our 3rd annual Wing Wednesday fundraiser in support of Edmonton Meals on Wheels. We took to Halley’s Club in Starlight Casino where we connected with our friends and supporters in the business community.

It was truly wonderful to see so many come together to support our mission while enjoying a unique and elegant venue, tasty drinks and appetizers, a live DJ and a wide selection of silent auction items to bid on. Our host Rob Christie was joined on stage by Daintre Christensen (Global News), Sharon Yeo (Only Here for the Food), and Karen Thibault (Equipment Sales & Service).

We want to thank everyone who attended and helped us raise much-needed funds that will go directly towards sustaining our essential programs and service. We can’t wait to see you all next year at our next fundraiser!

Edmonton Meals on Wheels is grateful to Starlight Casino and Gateway Casino & Entertainment Ltd. for their continued support of our efforts through their Gateway GIVES program. Since 2015, they have supported our meal programs by sponsoring our soups every Wednesday, helping us offset the cost of ingredients while nourishing our clients one hearty bowl at a time.

To mark ten years of partnership, their team graciously offered us Halley’s Club in support of Wing Wednesday. This stunning and unique venue provided the perfect setting for our evening of fun and connection. The culinary team at Starlight Casino delivered a mouthwatering menu of wings, sliders and more, while Atlas Steak + Fish served a glass of complimentary wine to each guest as they arrived.

On top of all this incredible support, Gateway Casino’s Tanya Gabara and Steve Gateway GIVES also surprised our Board President Michael Kirk with a donation of $5,000 during the program. We’re investing this gift in our meal subsidy programs to ensure those struggling financially can access nutritious prepared meals that support their overall health and well-being.

All funds raised during Wing Wednesday will support our Going Home program and our meal subsidies. In the last year referrals to our Going Home program, which delivers free healthy meals to people returning home from hospital, have nearly doubled (along with our costs to maintain this program). We do not receive any government funding to help us keep up with this demand, and we can only continue offering this service with the help of donations and fundraisers like Wing Wednesday. That’s why we are so deeply grateful to our sponsors, silent auction donors and guests who made this evening a great success.

Special thanks to Gerry Gilroy and Renata Lis-Pawlowska from Independent Jewellers for providing us with our dazzling door prize — an elegant 10kt tennis bracelet with 5 carats of lab-grown diamonds with a retail value of over $4,000. And congratulations to our lucky winner Elsa Amorim.

Every Wing Wednesday, we invite special guests to take part in our popular Hot Seat interviews. This year, we welcomed Daintre Christensen (Global Edmonton), Sharon Yeo (Only Here for the Food), and Karen Thibault (Equipment Sales & Service). These spicy wings were no match for our daring invitees who shared their insights into food insecurity and its impact on the community.

What’s an event without music? We want to thank our event’s DJ, Suzanne Summers. All throughout the night, she played music that brought just the right vibe and kept the party going.

A huge shout out to our photographer Christy Dean for donating her skills to capture the special moments throughout the evening. We’re so glad that we can look back on this experience!

Thank you to our Board of Directors for supporting our fundraisers. We would also like to thank Rob Christie, Michael Kirk and Glenn Quinn for their direct involvement with Wind Wednesday.

Thank you to our volunteers who donated their time to support our event. These volunteers helped with our fundraising efforts by helping with the silent auction and selling raffle tickets.

We were joined by two special guests — City Councillors Karen Principe and Andrew Knack. We appreciate their ongoing efforts to advocate for improved food security for all Edmontonians.

Are you thinking of getting involved? We have plenty of partnership opportunities that will help your company create a tangible difference for those we serve. With your support, your company can gain access to exclusive on-site benefits and recognition.
