The holidays aren’t a time or season, they’re a feeling.
For most of us, it is a time to open our homes to family and friends, making memories with full hearts and bellies. But for some Edmontonians, the coming months are filled with hardships and uncertainty. The stress of failing health, frigid temperatures, and isolation are enough to overwhelm many. Whatever your holiday plans might be this year, consider supporting our homebound neighbors this season with a monetary gift to Edmonton Meals on Wheels. We provide food security and social connections to thousands of clients, like our friend John.
John has lived in the same home in Edmonton for 51 years and his life revolves around two things: making people laugh, and his dog Bobbi. Maintaining an independent living situation is not without its struggles, John and faces reduced mobility due to cerebral palsy, kidney disease, and rising transportation costs in his battle to stay in his home. Before joining Meals on Wheels, John found maintaining a healthy diet difficult, as did his father.
“My dad was told to try Meals on Wheels while in the hospital, he’s diabetic and doesn’t always know which foods to eat. Before Meals on Wheels, I was ordering out a lot or relying on people like my dad to cook, but he is older now and dementia is making
it harder for him. After a lot of thought, I decided to become a client too.”
Donate today, and you will ensure John and his father have the peace of mind that make a holiday season bright. Your donations will be put to work immediately in support of clients like John and his father. We provide home cooked, nutritious meals customized to a variety of texture modifications and diet requirements, as well as informal daily wellness checks. We even offer grocery delivery, and provide meals for clients transitioning home after an extended hospital stay!
“Your services are a good comfort and reliable. I’m not experienced with balancing a proper diet, but now I eat better, I feel better, and I have people to talk to. The options for different diets are easy to change, and volunteers make me feel safe knowing I don’t have to go out in the cold. Thank God for Meals on Wheels!”
With your support, we can make all the difference with hundreds of families and caregivers across Edmonton this holiday season. Consider a tax-deductible gift – in any denomination – to help folks like John and his dad stay comfortable in their homes, so they can keep making meaningful holiday memories.
